FUNDRAISING IDEAS TO FINANCE CONFERENCE ATTENDANCE

Attending a Model UN conference, especially in a different city, may be a financial barrier to you or your delegation. So we’ve come up with some ways to make it easier for you to finance your conference registration!

1. Candy Sale: Sell some candy and chocolate to your fellow students! By buying sweets in bulk from a local warehouse and making your own goodie bags, students will be more than ecstatic to purchase your treats. Feel free to sell those goodie bags during your lunch periods or afterschool.

2. Trivia Night: Students love nothing more than beating their fellow friends in an intense game of trivia. Host a trivia night with fellow faculty members (bonus points if you get your Model UN team to help lead) and come up with some fun, yet challenging, categories for students to answer. All you need are paper slips, writing utensils, a category board, a score chart, and a special prize for the winning student/team.

3. Movie Night: The weather’s getting colder, so students love to snuggle in comfortable clothes and watch a heartwarming movie. All you need is a projector, movie room, confectionaries, and seats. You can have students pay a ticket to attend the matinee and/or charge students if they wish to buy popcorn, drinks, or any other confectionaries.

4. Open Mic Session: Students deserve a chance to express themselves through their arts and passions. Organize and host an open mic night for students to attend and perform whatever they would like. Students can sing, dance, perform songs, play their musical instruments, cite comedy, or whatever their hearts desire. Invite parents for an additional fundraising opportunity and you’ll have the perfect arts showcase.

5. Paint Night: Students love to paint, so why not organize a paint night? The session may get a little messy, but as long as you have a few towels and lots of patience, this night will be very engaging for many students. Get some paint, paintbrushes, canvases, and a room to paint in, and you’ll have the best art night for your students.

6. Partner with a Local Restaurant: What if you don’t have the time to organize an event but still want to fundraise for your delegation? Consider partnering with a local restaurant! Whether it is your local fast food joint or family diner, restaurant managers are sometimes more than happy to partner with you to compensate you every time a student makes a purchase. For instance, in the first week of December, you can work with a local restaurant and have 15% of all profits go towards your delegation (it has worked for some of our Secretariat members in the past!). Feel free to send us photos if this idea works!

7. Reach Out to Alumni: Alumni can be very eager to support your delegation after they graduate. So why not ask them for some financial support? Please see a sample email below that you can send to your team’s alumni:

“Hello my favorite alumni,

Our high school Model UN team will be attending CMUNCE next January all the way in New York City! Our delegates are super excited to participate in the conference but can only do so if we are able to raise some additional funds. We are reaching out to you to see if you would be able to help donate to our team and allow our students to attend CMUNCE at a reduced cost. Whether you would be able to contribute $1 or $25, your help would be greatly appreciated.
