1974 Cyprus Crisis

CRISIS COMMITTEE

The 1974 Cyprus Crisis stands as one of the most difficult and complex moments in modern diplomatic history, often called the "graveyard of diplomats." Decades of ethnic tensions, intertwined with Cold War geopolitics and regional rivalries, culminated in the island's devastating division—a legacy that endures to this day. In this Joint Crisis Committee, your challenge is to step into this critical period, dissecting the key events that shattered the possibility of a unified Cyprus.

As part of this committee, you’ll ask tough questions: Was the division of Cyprus into two separate entities truly inevitable? Could diplomatic efforts have prevented the Turkish invasion? Together, we’ll debate these issues and explore what alternative paths might have changed the course of history. The committee will consist of a Security Council operating under Provisional Rules of Procedure, alongside seven key delegations: the U.S., the UK, the Soviet Union, Greece, Turkey, Greek Cypriots, and Turkish Cypriots. Your mission is to navigate the complexities of the crisis, make strategic decisions, and explore new possibilities for resolving tensions and achieving lasting peace and unity in Cyprus.
