North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)
General Assembly (Double Delegation)
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is a transatlantic alliance that aims to establish and protect freedom and security in its member states. The member countries of this committee collectively make crucial decisions in order to resolve security issues of all kinds; they enact policies that not only combat immediate threats, but also prepare for potential future threats. Maintaining the relationship between member states is an extremely important aspect of this committee, as it upholds the principle of collective defense, which states that “an attack against one or several of its members is considered as an attack against all” (Article 5 of the Washington Treaty).
Delegates representing NATO members must possess exceptional collaboration and decision-making skills to ensure that all security crises may be effectively managed by the committee as a whole. At CMUNCE XXIII, this General Assembly committee aims to combat threats posed by cyber warfare and explore changes in NATO operations as a consequence of climate change.
Topics of Debate:
Topic A: Cybersecurity
What are the cybersecurity risks that come with the advancement of technology in the modern world, and how can member states address them?
What are some steps the committee should take to encourage international cooperation on protecting against cyber attacks?
How can member states identify the most essential infrastructure that are vulnerable to cyber attacks, and what actions should the committee take to ensure their security?
Topic B: Climate Change
What steps should the committee take to reduce the damage caused by factors that contribute to climate change, such as pollution and deforestation?
How can member states prepare emergency responses in preparation for environmental disasters caused by climate change?
How can the committee help countries recover from the large-scale impacts of climate change?
