Crisis Committee

The world is on the cusp of many new advancements in the new decade of 1990. DVDs, Google, and Linux were on the horizon as the world moved into a new era of living. However, with the beginning of the decade, the United Nations General Assembly has called into effect its 17th Special Session. The issue at hand is drug abuse. The world is still feeling some effects of the Iran Contra affair, with channels to Colombian cartels allowing the streets of Los Angeles to be flooded with illegal substances. Colombia and Mexico struggle with paramilitary efforts to decrease the supply and demand of drugs. America is hot off the Reagan presidency, where drug use has been severely penalized and minimum mandatory prison sentences have been established. To compound this, in George H.W. Bush’s first Oval Office address late last year, he declared crack to be a public enemy of America. And when faced with public enemies, countries have been going to war against drugs. But be careful, your journey will include a time skip to today’s drug issues and you will have to reckon with the effects of your actions. Join the 1990 17th Special Session on Drug Abuse at the UN and help create solutions to the silent wars being fought around the globe and ultimately, produce a safer world for all.
